Default Unlucky Title?

this was just in the new update:

"Unlucky points given each time you break a lockpick now increase as your chance to retain a lockpick upon use goes up. "

can someone explain to me, is this per lockpick, rank or what?

the bigger your chance to retrieve a lockpick the more unlucky points you get if it breaks

Think of it this way - the higher your lucky rank, the more unlucky points you get if you break a pick.

I have yet to see a breakdown of any sort of what the points are, though - nor have I seen if Treasure Hunter rank or chest level (like Ascalonian Chest vs. Shiverpeak Chest) affects this at all. From the wording of the update, theoretically they both should change the points you get.

Editing: just to throw it out there, last night in NM Slaver's Exile a guildie of mine who is Rank 5 Treasure Hunter and (I believe) Rank 4 Lucky got (again, I think I remember him saying on Vent) 117 points for breaking a pick.

I belive it's 2.5 x retention chance.

I was getting 145 from 58% retention chance.

previously, at 55% retention chance, I was getting 137.

I'm inclined to agree with Daisuko here, even while I haven't had time to do any experiments on my own. 250 * retention chance (as a fraction) would put the minimal gain at 25 points for HM chests without title bonuses (0.1 chance) which coincides with the previous value.

It looks like a huge boost for achieving Unlucky if you can gain almost ten times the amount of points per key as before.

Edit: broke a pick at 96% retain rate, got 240 Unlucky points as expected. I consider this issue resolved

Pity theres not a mini game like in Thief 3 when you open chests. That would be nice, so when a lockpick breaks you don't blame your char for being a hamfisted moron, only yourself, and if needs be you just snap the sensitive glass lockpicks off in the lock for unlucky lol
